This browser-based tool attempts to read PDFs with PDF.js. If a file opens, it can optionally render the pages and rebuild them into a new PDF. It cannot reconstruct missing or irretrievably damaged data, repair every broken cross-reference table, decrypt protected PDFs, or guarantee recovery. Rebuilding creates image-based pages rather than preserving the original PDF structure.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can this tool repair every corrupted PDF?
No. Recovery depends on how much of the original file remains readable. Missing page data, severely damaged object streams, and certain encryption or structural problems may be unrecoverable.
Will the repaired PDF look exactly like the original?
The rebuild mode renders pages as images. It can preserve their visible appearance when rendering succeeds, but searchable text, selectable content, links, forms, accessibility features, and other PDF functionality may be lost. Page size and quality may also differ.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion logic operates in your browser and does not send the selected PDF to Ghostools. The browser downloads the supporting JavaScript libraries from their CDN when needed.
Can I repair password-protected PDFs?
This tool does not provide password recovery or bypass PDF encryption. If a document requires a password, use a trusted PDF application and the appropriate credentials.
Is PDF Repair Pro free?
Yes. It works without a paid API, a conversion server, or an account. Your device's memory and browser capabilities determine how large a file it can handle.
